UV Lights Work on Diamonds Checking

Real diamonds can have fluorescence phenomenon, some diamonds can show blue-white, blue, yellow-green, green or other fluorescence under ultraviolet light, when the UV light is turned off, the general diamond has no color, which is a normal phenomenon. Some diamonds fluoresce, usually blue-white, while a small percentage fluoresce yellow.

People also have different attitudes towards fluorescence. Some people specifically seek out diamonds that produce this unique effect, while others avoid buying them. In fact, different levels of fluorescence effect can only be recognized by trained jewelry professionals.

The intensity of fluorescence reaction is divided into four grades, "strong", "medium", "weak" and "none". Fluorescence levels are medium or strong, which can make the surface of nearly colorless diamonds appear whiter over a certain distance, adding a hazy or oily feel to the diamond. The price of diamonds with intermediate or strong fluorescence is lower than other diamonds.

The indicator of Fluorescence refers to the intensity of colored light, such as blue or yellow light, that diamonds emit in strong ultraviolet light. That is to say, it is not felt under natural light, except in the summer sun with strong ultraviolet light, a diamond with strong fluorescence, the naked eye can feel the presence of fluorescence. Except in this case, fluorescence has no effect on the wear.

Ultraviolet light can be used in gemstone identification. Many gemstones can emit different colors of light under ultraviolet light. Diamonds often appear blue under ultraviolet light.

Synthetic diamond: Long wave is usually no fluorescence, short wave has yellow-green, orange fluorescence, "Maltese cross zonation" phenomenon, with obvious phosphorescence

Natural diamond: In long wave is mostly blue white fluorescence, short wave is weak or inert.
